Pastor Search Committee Update

March 2020 Update

The Pastoral Search Committee sends the following update: In these recent days of uncertainty in our world, we are thankful that we are able to press on with our work and had our first virtual meeting online last week.  We plan to continue meeting virtually until we can be together again.

As you know, we have been educating ourselves on the process of pastoral selection - we have been reading and discussing the book, Finding a Pastor, by Dr. Joel Hathaway, as well as consulting other resources on the topic.  We have determined that we need input from you and from the leadership here at Peace. To that end, we will be circulating a congregational and leadership survey.  We are in the process of developing those surveys now and will update you again when we are ready to send out those surveys.

In the meantime, you can begin prayerfully considering the attributes you believe most important in a Lead pastor.  We encourage you to join us in this journey and educate yourselves along with us. Ligonier Ministries has an excellent series on what it means to be a Reformed pastor (by Ian Hamilton) and these online materials are free at the moment here.

Mostly we need your continued prayers - and your patience - this is a long process and we need your support.  We press on, trusting in our Good Shepherd, to guide and lead us to the man who will be our next Lead Pastor at Peace.

February 2020 Update

We thank you for electing us to serve you, the Congregation, in the search for our next Lead Pastor.  We take seriously this charge and believe that the diversity you have chosen to serve on this committee appropriately reflects the diversity in the body of believers here at Peace Church.

We plan to stay in communication with you by providing regular updates of our progress, and we welcome feedback from you as well. You can reach all committee members by email.

In order to tackle the difficulties of our task, we have committed ourselves to open, honest, and confidential discussions in the committee. As such, we may not be able to share details of what we discuss or potential candidates we consider.  What we can share with you we will.

We need you to pray for us as a committee and as individuals. Search committees are a prime battleground for spiritual warfare. Check out Christina Fox's blog post "What to Pray for Your Search Committee" on the Gospel Coalition's website for specifics of how your prayers along with God's word can be the "sharpest weapon in our arsenal." Find the article here.

In the first month of our work, the committee has been reading and discussing "Finding a Pastor", by Dr. Joel Hathaway, which offers insights into the pastoral search process. At our request, Grant Buckner is leading us through a substantive review of what it means to be a reformed pastor based on a teaching series by Ian Hamilton, produced through Ligonier Ministries.  At the end of this month we will meet together as a committee for a 5-hour mini-retreat to pray, worship, and grow together as a reflective and fully engaged group, committed to identifying and recommending to you a spiritual leader of God's choosing for Peace Church.

Join us as we witness what God will do for Peace Church in the coming months!
