Prayer #90: For Movie Theaters and Their Reopening after COVID-19 Restrictions
In motion picture theaters, large groups of people sit indoors in close proximity. Consequently, governors and mayors across the country have been slow to approve their reopening. Now it appears that all of the major theater chains, including AMC, Regal and Carmine, will be reopening in July after having been closed since March. Movies that have been delayed for release during this period of closure will now begin to be shown. Health officials have warned that large indoor gatherings carry a risk of spreading the virus, though wearing masks, taking the temperatures of everyone coming in, use of hand sanitizer, and taking other precautions would presumably help considerably.
When they reopen, theaters will be operating under social-distancing guidelines. How this will be done has not yet been specified, though it is most likely that there will be considerably less than capacity attendance permitted.
In the meantime, the construction of drive-in movie theaters has spiked across the country due to the greater safety from Coronavirus infection that they provide. This marks a comeback of these kinds of theaters that were so popular during the 1950s and 1960s.
Prior to COVID-19, over a billion movie theater tickets were sold each year in the United States in the most recently pre-coronavirus statistics. With indoor theaters reopening, we want to pray that this would not be an avenue for the spread of the virus.
Pray that indeed, when theaters reopen next month across the nation, that with careful precautions, the COVID-19 virus will not spread as people gather to see motion pictures. Pray that everyone attending would cooperate and take the required precautions. And continue to pray for God's work in the lives of both of those who are involved in making movies and those who go to watch them.
John 14:1: "Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me."
