Daily Prayer During the Coronavirus Crisis

Prayer #78: For a Turnback in the Newly Reported Increases of COVID-19 Cases

Just this morning, one of the United States' principal COVID-19 computer modeling organizations, the University of Wisconsin's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) announced that its extended projections through October 1st indicate that there the death toll from the virus in the U.S. will rise to about 169,890 by then. Cases should, the institute indicated, start to rise significantly in September. This news was enough to send the stock market, which had been making spectacular gains recently, tumbling again---about 1,500 points as of this writing. With the reopening in many states, an increase in cases is being reported in 21 states at this point, although it should be said that this comes at the same time that testing has greatly increased across the country.

The IHME, on the other hand, has repeatedly vastly overestimated things in its projections and has had to make many revisions. Nevertheless, health officials are concerned. Dr. Fauci, the President's infectious disease expert, stated that the fight against the spread of Coronavirus is far from over.

We want to go to prayer today because what is impossible with man is possible with God. God is sovereign over everything. He is greater than the COVID-19 virus---infinitely so. So it is to Him that we go on this day. We pray that God would indeed turn back this virus, causing it soon to dissipate and then disappear altogether. We cry to our God, the One whose power knows no limits, for this. Pray today that many would run to the Father, who through His Son, holds all things in His hands.

Col. 1:17: "He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together."
