Prayer #75: For Accurate Communication During the Coronavirus Crisis
In these days of the Internet and social media, information travels rapidly, sometimes seemingly instantaneously. What this means though, is that both accurate information and inaccurate information circulate readily and quickly. This has been abundantly evident during the Coronavirus Crisis. Along with the vitally important factual details and information have come all manner of incorrect data and reports, false predictions, exaggerations, and erroneous and even fictitious studies. For even some of the most basic and exceedingly important data such as the degree of contagiousness of COVID-19 and the death rate from it, there is considerable variation of opinion.
The inaccuracy of computer-generated models has been one thing that has led to some of these problems. There have also been many fear-based rumors that have been disseminated. We want to pray today for accurate communication of the details of COVID-19, because this is essential in all the efforts to contain its spread.
Therefore, we want to pray for correct, accurate information concerning the Coronavirus. We pray for health officials, the President and his COVID-19 advisors, the governors of our states, and the mayors of our cities and towns--- that they would seek to ensure that the data and reports that are released are as accurate as can be. We pray also for those in the news services as well, that they would not be quick to release information before it's verified as correct. We also pray that everyone---all of us---would be more cautious about believing information coming via social media prior to confirming that it is correct. Finally, pray that realizing that everything about COVID-19 is not known, and maybe never will be, we would run to the Lord, our shelter, and our security, for now, and always.
2 Cor. 8:21: "For we aim at what is honorable, not only in the Lord's sight but also in the sight of man."
