Prayer #60: For Gyms and Exercise During the Coronavirus Crisis
Gyms in most of the states across the country have been closed since mid-March, and, even as many other businesses are opening now, with many states in some stage of reopening, gymnasiums, for the most part, remain closed, and will probably continue to be so in at least 30-50% of the states for at least another 30 days and maybe beyond that. The reason for this is that, in addition to social distancing challenges, in gymnasiums, during workouts, there is heavy breathing and perspiration, both of which provide possible pathways for the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
The closure of gyms has had immense financial impacts on this industry. The smaller, independent gyms have especially been hurt. Many of these are having now to rent out their equipment to individuals in order to stay in business. Also, with gyms closed, the amount of overall exercise has no doubt greatly decreased. Many people have previously relied on the routine of regular visits to the gym to get the exercise they need, and for the last two-and-a-half months, that opportunity has not been there.
Today we pray for gyms and exercise during this time of the Coronavirus. Pray that God would sustain gyms during this time of closure. Pray especially for the small gyms that lack the resources to last through this extended time of being shut down. Pray that conditions would improve soon that would enable gyms to reopen. Pray too for the need for exercise in the meantime, critical for some, would be met through other ways. Especially pray that those so zealous for physical exercise would not neglect the spiritual needs of their heart, and would seek the Lord diligently.
Ps. 73:26: "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
