Prayer #49: For a Time of Humbling During the Coronavirus
One thing is certain. The COVID-19 crisis has been a time of humbling. We are restricted from doing many things we could do before. There are shortages of things on the grocery store shelves. Many activities have been canceled. We have not been able to attend church services. Sick loved ones in nursing homes cannot be visited. Many jobs have been lost. Savings have dwindled or even evaporated. We need to keep a social distance. Travel is in some cases restricted. Vacations have been scrapped or delayed. And on top of everything else, there is uncertainty as to how long this will continue. It is indeed a humbling experience! The encouragement that we can receive in this as Christians, though, is that God uses humbling in our lives as we move away from our reliance on ourselves and material things. Sometimes it takes situations like this to remind us of how much we need God, and how much, in reality, He makes it possible for us to have what we need to live-indeed He really provides everything! When the Coronavirus crisis has ended, let us be able to remember that it was a time that caused us to return to the Lord in much greater dependence.
On this day, we do thank God for the humbling that is taking place during the COVID-19 crisis, and for the ways that God can use that in the lives of His people. Pray that indeed, we would run to God, confessing our dependence on things other than Him. Let this, we pray, be a time in which we trust Him wholly. Pray too that those who do not know Christ, would, as they too are also being humbled, seek the Lord for their provision and salvation during this difficult time.
1 Peter 5:6: "Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you."
