Prayer #43: For Those in Prison During the Coronavirus Crisis
The close-quarter nature of our jails, penitentiaries, and prisons make these facilities ripe for outbreaks of COVID-19. For this reason, in-person visits at correctional facilities have been suspended in most states in the U.S. There have indeed been cases of the virus in these facilities, though deaths have been few thus far. Nevertheless, the prison systems across the country continue to be areas of concern. A number of states have actually released inmates, either those that are in facilities but have not yet been sentenced or those who are being released early. In most cases, those released have been non-violent offenders, but it is claimed by some that smaller numbers of these were those serving time for serious crimes and violent offenses.
Pray for protection for our prisons from the COVID-19 viruses, for both inmates, guards, and correctional staff. Pray also for the families of inmates, who are anxious for loved ones in prison during this time but cannot see them on visits. Pray too for wisdom and careful deliberation for governors and prison officials in the release of inmates. Above all, pray that God would use this for His good in our jails and prisons---that many inmates and guards would seek His face and come to Christ.
Heb. 13:3: "Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them."
