Prayer #33: For Restaurants Struggling During the Coronavirus Outbreak
In what is being termed "the restaurant apocalypse," across the United States, sit-down restaurants are closed due to Coronavirus restrictions. Thus far, these restaurants have been shuttered for at least 45 days. This is truly an unprecedented challenge to this industry. Many, perhaps most restaurants have a razor-thin margin of profit and have less than three weeks of financial reserves in place. A recent survey of 4,000 restaurants by the National Restaurant Association indicated that about 11% said they would close permanently within the next 30 days. Some business experts predict that at least 20% of all existing restaurants in the nation will permanently close as a result of the COVID-19 restrictions. If so, this would mean that 200,000 restaurants will close, putting more than 3 million people out of work.
We pray today for the restaurants across our country. Large and small, all the sit-down restaurants have had to close. Pray for the survival of this industry that employs many people that barely make a living wage, if that. Pray for God's miraculous provision. We think especially of small, family-run cafes and restaurants that are truly devastated by what has happened. Pray too that outdoor patio seating could be opened up for restaurants that have that option, as is happening in a few states so that restaurants could do at least some business to stem the horrific financial drain.
Matt. 19:26: "With God all things are possible."
