Prayer #29: For a Spirit of Repentance to Arise from the Coronavirus Crisis
Nothing occurs on this Earth that is outside the sovereignty of God, and that certainly includes the COVID-19 virus. The Lord has His purposes in everything that happens. Sometimes we are able to see what His purposes are; other times we are not.
One thing we do know: God uses crises to get our attention. These are times that He would have us consider our ways and examine our hearts. This process should begin in the Church. How have we sinned? Have we been a prayerless people? A worldly Church? Have we lost our first love? Have our hearts grown cold toward God and others? Are we building our own kingdoms instead of God's? What would God have us to confess and repent of? As we, God's people repent, then, and only then, can we look for repentance outside of the Church. We want to pray today, then, for the Church to model repentance before a spiritually needy world during this Coronavirus crisis.
Pray that the Church would indeed lead the way in repentance. Help us to see the many things that we ourselves have to repent of. Pray that we would let the Spirit search our hearts thoroughly. Ask Him to show us what to turn from. Pray that this time of crises would turn out to be something that has a great spiritual effect on the Church. Pray that a revival would come to the Church out of such honest and open repentance and that this revival would lead to the spiritual transformation of our nation.
Ps. 139:23-24: "Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts. And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
