Prayer #116: For the Death Rate from COVID-19 Across the United States

One piece of encouraging news regarding the COVID-19 virus is that the death rate from the virus is been steadily descending, worldwide, even as the number of cases is rising in many countries. Deaths in hospital intensive care units have decreased by a third or more since the outbreak of the virus. For the 12th straight week in the United States, the percentage of deaths due to the Coronavirus---the percentage of deaths from COVID-19 from deaths from all sources of mortality---has dropped. The latest decrease went from 8.1% during week 27 to 6.4% in week 28. Regarding the deaths/case of COVID-19 in the U.S., it recently was reported by the CDC as 4.4%, down from 7 to 8% in April and May. Increased testing certainly accounts for some of this, of course, which is identifying more people with little or no symptoms, and allows for much earlier treatment to begin. Nevertheless, the decrease in death rates from COVID-19 is most encouraging. Health officials, however, warn about complacency in response to this good news, since the COVID-19 virus is a formidable disease, even if one doesn't die from it.

Let's pray indeed that the death rate from COVID-19 continues to drop. Pray too that there would be an overall decrease in the number of cases of the virus. Pray for God's intervening, sovereign hand to eradicate this vicious virus.

Jer. 32:17: "Ah, Lord God! It is You that have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power, and by Your outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for You."
